Support for Parents

Online Counselling Autism Supervision Adults Neurodivergent Mental Health Anxiety Depression Help Therapy Psychotherapy Alresford Winchester Hampshire Alton Diagnosis

I can also help if someone in your family is autistic and you would like to understand more about the condition to improve your family life.  As the parent of two (now adult) children, I have personal experience not just of dealing with the differences in parenting an autistic child or young person, but also of navigating my way around the health and education systems to obtain assessment, diagnosis and support. â€‹

Help with diagnosis

I work with parents to help them understand and support family members who may be struggling with the challenges of being autistic, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis.

Even if your son or daughter has been diagnosed, you may find yourself struggling to help because you’re not sure what to do.

You may be feeling overwhelmed yourself as you try to learn about the condition at the same time as you’re trying to find ways of helping them.

You may be looking for some practical help and support, strategies to help your son or daughter cope with their difficulties.

Or you may want to understand more about the condition to improve your relationships and to develop your own set of strategies, ones that work best for your family.

Your own concerns

I also work with parents who want to talk about their own concerns.

You may be waiting for a referral or diagnosis for your child and are worried about the implications.

Or you may be struggling with the challenges of being a parent to a young person with autism as you try to navigate your own way around the system,  but have no-one you can talk to.

Whatever your reasons for looking for support, you may find it helpful to talk to someone who has both personal and professional knowledge and experience of autism.
